Formula

Pieces are placed on deterministic rows, then repeat, shrinkage, waste, and shop increment rules are applied in that order.

Assumptions

  • Every piece is rectangular.
  • Rotation is used only when selected and the fabric is not directional.

When a tested commercial pattern gives different cutting dimensions or layout instructions, follow that pattern.

How do I calculate fabric yardage for repeated pieces?

Enter fabric width, piece width, piece height, and quantity. The planner compares legal orientations and reports how many rows fit and the yards that layout needs.

Should I allow rotation on directional fabric?

Leave rotation off for nap, one-way prints, or directional grain. The planner then keeps every piece in the orientation you entered.
